IT’S TIME TO DREAM An Open Letter to Pastors

Dear Pastor Jim:
Young David’s fight with Goliath did not prove him to be a success for life; it only made him a success in that battle. If he had killed Goliath and that was the end of him, we would have never heard about David the son of Jesse, the man after God’s own heart.
The battle in the Valley of Elah was a very important struggle, but it was only the beginning of what God had planed for this teenager. David still had a life to live, and he had to live it successfully for some 20 years before he ever wore the crown. Then he had to live as a monarch worthy of the crown.
The Lord give David a major victory that day, no doubt about that. But it was the “what’s next” that completed defining his legacy as a man of God.
Pastor Jim, God has placed a wide open door in front of you. Your challenge now is to lead your people into green pastures and beside still waters. You’re at a new beginning, and it gives you opportunity to grow the church that has always been in your heart.
This next phase won’t be easy either. You’ll surely have some more “lions” and “bears” to slay as time goes on. But your past says with God anything in your future is possible.
It’s time now to dream; to cast a vision that you believe in wholeheartedly. Your people will sign on as they come to understand the plan, and as they see your heart is set like flint to achieve it.
Then, when the day comes that you look back over your life and lay down your gospel sword, you will know you have been but a willing vessel in the hands of “the Man who stilled the waters.” At that time you’ll be able to say, “Look what God hath wrought!”
It’s time right now for you to stand up in your inner man. Hand in hand with the “Man who calmed the sea,” go for your dream. Jesus is the head of His church and He already has a congregation picked out for you, but you have to follow His lead and let Him help you find your sheep. Even now “the Lord is rejoicing over you to do you good, and to multiply you.”
And believe me, your flock is ready to respond to the gospel call. They just need to hear you say in Jesus’ name, “come follow me.”
Pastor Frank
